We are sailing towards the island of Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. The weather is changing the winds are picking up and the sea is quite rough. Rarotonga is a tender port so we shall what happens Tonight we are invited to the Captain’s cocktail party and dinner in the Pinnacle Room, one of the specialty restaurants on board. At the cocktail reception we met Julia, she is 94 years old, this is her 28th world cruise and she has logged 2570 days cruising on Holland America, no doubt she will sitting at the captain’s table. A side note, I ran into the next day and she was booking next years cruise, #29, she did admit they started out on deck 7 which is the deluxe verandahs floor and is now sailing on Deck 2.
Dinner was not anything spectacular , garlic soup , followed by smoked salmon with a topping of caviar, some beef medallion dish, than a very different dessert, a dish of three rows the top rows was tiny squares of chocolate, the second row was cheeses and the third row was espresso Jell-O cubes. I think this is a typical dessert back in Holland. The nice part of the dinner is they continually filled your wine glass.
Our gift today, tow napkin rings and two flower vases with a scene from amsterdam. Plus two pairs of Bushnell binoculars.
